Project Description

The USF Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute is a state-of-the-art research facility that provides care and diagnostic treatment for patients with memory disorders. The Institute provides its services to patients and their families in one place. In addition, USF Byrd houses the university’s first 13,000-lb, $1.3 million PET/CT scan. This high-tech neurological scanning equipment is the key piece of the Institute’s new complete Alzheimer’s C.A.R.E (Clinical Assessment Research & Education) Center.

VoltAir’s scope of work included providing complete Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection design services for: complete buildout of the 2nd, 5th, and 6th floors, as well as the basement. The 2nd floor, dedicated to Alzheimer’s Research, houses a PET scan, and patient care areas. The 5th floor, approx. 5,000-SF buildout, houses Genomic research facilities and labs, fume hoods, etc. The 6th floor buildout was approx. 10,000- SF and houses research labs devoted to curing Parkinson’s disease. Finally, the 5,000- SF basement area was designed to house a vivarium and additional lab space, however was not built-ou due to ground water intrusion issues.

Also included in the scope was the build out of a 5,000-SF medical office clinic in a first generation space on the sixth floor of USF’s Johnnie Byrd Clinic Building for the Movement Disorder Clinic, as well as 5th FL lab renovations.
